Protecting those most vulnerable
Just how important is your privacy and your child’s online privacy to us? Plenty. In fact, we at Funrise, Inc. (“Funrise”) share your concern about protecting an impressionable young audience. This issue is vital to our mission of encouraging safe and healthy learning. By promoting a trustful and secure environment, we can offer you and your child a safe and enjoyable online experience. It’s just the right thing to do.
We are committed to fulfilling our obligation to protect children from the unauthorized solicitation of personal information. We also acknowledge the prerogative of parents to decide what type of information they want to submit to us in that regard. Our policy is to fully comply with the terms of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the privacy guidelines of the Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. The following text outlines in question and answer format the specific actions we take to effect such compliance both to ensure that there is a safe online environment for the children who visit our site and to give peace of mind to the parents, teachers and caregivers of those children.

What Information Is Collected
Generally, Funrise limits the collection of information to what is known as non-personally identifiable information that help us provide a better online experience. (See Cookies, ISP Addresses and Logs below.) From time to time, however, we may request limited personally identifiable information (e.g. email address, name, residence), as explained below, in order to conduct online contests or sweepstakes or offer other online activities (e.g. electronic postcards, newsletters).
Contests and Sweepstakes
Funrise may from time to time offer contests and sweepstakes, which may be entered online or through Facebook. To participate in a contest or sweepstakes, each participant is asked to provide their name, email address, city and state of residence. A participant’s email address is only used to contact that individual in the event they are selected as a contest winner. All the information collected by Funrise is securely maintained and used only for the purpose of conducting the contest or sweepstakes. Once the contest or sweepstakes is finished, we then delete any personal information collected.
Use of Information
Cookies, ISP Addresses and Log Data
Cookies are information files that your web browser places on the hard drive of your computer when you visit a website. Cookies cannot damage user files, nor can they read information from a user’s hard drive. Cookies allow websites to “remember” users activities on a website as well as users visits to a site. At Funrise, cookies are used to determine the number of unique visitors to our website over a given period. We do not store any personal information into cookies nor do we link or combine information collected through cookies to any personal information an individual submits online when participating in our activities. You can, of course, disable cookies on your computer by indicating this in the preferences or options menus in your browser.
Log data collected on web servers both within Funrise’s control and under the control of Funrise’s third party service provider, who is required to maintain such data on a confidential basis, supplies Funrise with aggregate information about the number of visits to different pages on our site. Funrise uses such aggregate information to improve access to our content based on our visitors’ browsers and operating system types to make our content available to as many individuals as possible. We do not link the log data collected to the personal information submitted online when participating in this contest.
When you access a page on our website, our servers log your Internet Service Provider (ISP) address for the purpose of system administration and aggregate information. Our servers also record your type of browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox or other browsers) and your operating system (e.g. Macintosh or Windows). We do not link or combine this information to any personal information submitted online when participating in our activities.
Funrise has taken steps to ensure that personally identifiable information collected in the future is secure, including limiting the number of people who have physical access to our database servers as well as electronic security systems and password protections which guard against unauthorized access.
